Long Beach criminal attorney Matthew G. Kaestner brings over 30 years of experience to the aggressive defense of every client he represents. Mr. Kaestner graduated law school in 1985 with 'High Honors' in trial practice. Mr. Kaestner's first attempt at the bar exam was successful. Only 33% of those taking the test passed the bar exam during the summer of 1985. Mr. Kaestner then obtained a position with the Los Angeles District Attorney. After three years as a prosecutor, Mr. Kaestner began his career as a criminal defense attorney.

In the last 30 years, Mr. Kaestner has developed expert skills as a trial lawyer while specializing in all aspects of criminal law. He has defended thousands of clients. Their cases have included hundreds of 'strike' cases, multi-kilo drug seizures, wiretaps, search warrants, white collar crime, and special circumstance murder.

Since just 2012, Attorney Kaestner has trial victories for charges of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, gang allegations and child abuse. In two murder trials he has saved clients charged from life sentences when they were convicted of manslaughter only. He has achieved pre-trial dismissals in cases charging resisting arrest, drunk in public, prostitution, hit and run, indecent exposure, drug possession and many others. In 2019 alone, Mr. Kaestner prevailed on motions to suppress evidence resulting in the dismissal of two separate felony cases.

Long Beach criminal attorney Kaestner was recently recognized by the National Registry of Exonerations for his work over three years to exonerate Juan Herrera from a wrongful murder conviction in Long Beach. (Read more.)
